Hey guys -- with the introduction of Levitra and Ciallis to compete with Viagra, would anyone who's tried at least two of them be willing to share your comparative experiences - how long they last, side effects, etc.?

I've used Viagra on a few occasions for the "stay hard in a condom" problem. The only side effect I noticed was a mild buzz akin to what caffeine does to me (I'm a one cup a day guy). Some friends have experienced the headaches and the "seeing blue" syndromes.

What's the word now that there are three alternatives?

I've used both Viagra and Levitra. I had the same "buzz" with both. Could't tell too much difference.

I have tried all three. Here are my experiences but everyone will be different.

Viagra: 50 mgs -- rather severe flushing, nasal congestion, hot flashes, no buzz and no headaches. Lasts about 6 hours.

Levitra: 50 mgs -- mild flushing and mild nasal congestion, slight buzz and no headaches. Lasts about 12 hours -- good for the next morning but not the next evening.

Cialis: 10 mgs -- mild flushing initially, no buzz, no headaches. Lasts for two days but erections are inferior and it is too damn expensive. (10 mgs supposedly equals 50 mgs of Viagra or Levitra)

My choice: Levitra

Both Levitra and Cialis have quite a few more drug interactions than Viagra (which can be taken with anything but nitrates and poppers). I'm not too familiar with Cialis other than that it lasts longer than the other two, so I guess that could be its advantage. Levitra interacts with a slew of medications including blood pressure meds, antibiotics, antifungals, heart medications, and HIV medications. Both Levitra and Viagra can cause blue vision (even wanted to have sex with a smurf?). Both have to be taken one hour before sex. Actually, I just looked up Cialis on my epocrates.com account, and I couldn't believe the number of drug interactions it has (bearing in mind that epocrates often lists a number of clinically irrelevant drug interactions).

So I would say that if you want to do marathon sessions for over 24 hours, Cialis probably has an edge. Otherwise, good ol' Viagra is probably safer and has a longer track record. I really don't see a niche for Levitra. I talked with a Levitra salesman, and he couldn't come up with any advantage over Viagra.

The side effects of all three are essentially the same. How each individual reacts can vary. The bluish discoloration to vision is because of the effect on the circulation in the retina and is not harmful, although it may be somewhat disconcerting. The flushing is very common and is related to the vasodilatation of the capillaries in the skin. Headache is also common. Levitra is supposed to be a little more potent and is useful in those individuals who truly have erectile dysfunction (particularly secondary to diabetes) and may work in those in whom viagra has failed. Viagra and Levitra last about the same time (4 to 6 hours) and the absorption is affected by fatty foods. Cialis is no more effective, it is just longer lasting, up to 36 hours. The drug interactions and metabolism are essentially the same for all three. This information is from the package inserts (PDR) and from the pharmaceutical representatives.

According to my MD, they are all the same thing.

I just love the way they list all of the side effects in the Cialis TV ads, and really linger over the part about "erections lasting longer than 4 hours, although rare, require immediate medical attention" ...

... presumably so they can try to figure out how to reproduce the effect in other people ;)

I'm very big on Cialis having tried a sample a couple of times now. I've found it to be most effective in producing a really hard erection, and it lasts a good 48 hours (not the erection, but the possibility-with the right stimulation). Damn, I'm gonna have to fork out for something longer than an overnight now. Oh, and the side effects are minimal compared to what I was experiencing on Viagra, especially the sinus stuffiness and mild headache. With Cialis, there was none of that.

Hmmm. I don't think that there are any head-to-head (so to speak) studies comparing Levitra and Viagra. Even the Levitra salesman I spoke to didn't so much as hint that Levitra was more effective than Viagra. All studies with Viagra and Levitra were done with men suffering from "true" erectile dysfunction (as opposed to Ho's just wanting to have sex with more than one client a day, I suppose! :D ). Viagra works with all categories, "psychogenic" and "organic," including the most difficult category: those who've had prostate cancer surgery.

Viagra v. Levitra v. Cialis

I have tried all three. Almost four years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Because of the very early detection, I had many alternatives for treatment. I chose surgical removal of the prostate. I have fully recovered and am cancer-free still today. The minor problem – I don’t ejaculate. I do have an orgasm and everything else feels wonderful. So I DO boil – I just don’t “boil over”. Also, although I’ve had no complaints, I know that my erections are not as firm as they were before. (Of course, I am over 60, but THAT can’t be the problem…lol) Because of that I’m not much of a top. But medication does help.

When I first mentioned (about a year ago) this to my urologist (difficult for me to do –I’m a widower), he prescribed Viagra. First, 50 mg –did little. He upped it to 100mg and this helped some – certainly an improvement. The only side effect I encountered was flushing. I have a naturally ruddy face and it was more pronounced. I did once encounter the blue vision, but that was my own fault – I took one too many in a 24-hour period. I learned to take one about ½ hour to an hour before a projected liaison. After I had once “boiled”, it wouldn’t come back.

When I heard about Cialis, I asked to try it and he gave me one of his 4 tablet samples. Absolutely nothing! If anything it seemed to exacerbate the problem. Forget that.

This January he prescribed Levitra – 20 mg. For me, this works much better and lasts longer. Although there is some flushing, it is not as pronounced as it was with Viagra. And taking it 15 minutes to ½ hour before, works –(timing is everything! You’ve just taken the pill and he calls to say he will be late – agggghhh!) Additionally there seems to be a latent “morning after” effect (great for overnights)! I have also learned not to drink much alcohol beforehand. It also seems to work best on an empty stomach – so I play and THEN go to dinner!

I also think that there has been a gradual regeneration of nerves. I believe my urologist did a great job – I could have had nothing going on, but he preserved enough nerves for there to be what there is.

All of this means that each person must find what works best for him with the doctor’s help. At this point Levitra works best for me. It’s not totally like it used to be, but then, neither am I. I hate it when a doctor prefaces something with … “Well, you know at your age…” I am, however, a VERY fortunate person in that “at my age” I don’t HAVE to take any medications; therefore, I needn’t be concerned with drug interactions. And in the last month or two, I have been able to top, but that may have been more related to the man I was with than anything … lol.

This is absolutely more than any of you wanted to know, because it runs on like a complete medical history :+ . I had communicated this to ncm2169 privately, but thought others might find it useful.

P.S. The first paragraph explains the following tag line. :)

I notice that with Viagra, it is harder for me to cum. BUT with Levitra I could not cum at all. Had to give up. Haven't tried Cialis.

I use Viagra.

I use about 30 mg (1/3 of a blue 100 pill)

I chew it and let the saliva get under the tongue. After the first few times you get to enjoy the taste. Like Pavlov's dog you know the result.

It appears to act within 10-15 minutes.

I always take a drink of water after it all dissolves and the taste is mostly gone. I rarely have any side effect except after orgasm when I feel chilled. My rentboy always gets flushes.

Just so people don't get confused. Levitra is available in 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. There is no 50mg.

Some 3-4 months ago, there was a very long thread on this topic discussing all three drugs. So if some people don't tune in, that may be why.

I have tried both Viagra 50 mg (second from the top in strength) and Levitra 10mg (second from the top). I vote for Levitra. Levitra gave me a harder erection than Viagra. In both cases, I had a mild headache just after first taking the drug. In neither case did it affect color vision. The effects lasted about 4-5 hrs. in both cases. My doctor had also told me there's no difference. I think individuals react differently to the three drugs, and if you're not happy with the first, try another. So I believe there is a market for Levitra. I also think the price per pill is about the same - outrageous. I have not tried Cialis. It's tempting, but remember that whatever side effects you get from Cialis will probably last as long as the benefits. Both the Levitra and Cialis Web Sites have one-time free coupons for a small number of pills (with an Rx) if your doctor doesn't have any free samples.
