Good to know that the client wasn’t injured, but he could have done a simple Google search on the phone number to have found various listings that should have raised several red flags.

Not for nothin' (and I understand that you had to travel in from NJ poss drove in or drove to NJ train etc) but NEVER bring your wallet or anything you don't have to to a first time meet with a strange scort in a hotel. If you can avoid bringing even a Driver's license leave it home. You bring the cash, and SEPARATELY some extra cash and ONE card you can use and you stick that somewhere like a sock etc that you shove inside your kicks when you undress etc. (I know I'm jaded lol I was born n raised here, my UNCLES gave me THIS same advice as a teen about seeing Hookers lol) But it's good advice And I echo the relief that you were not hurt esp when a second guy shows up.
