Making yourself comfortable on a NY subway train could land you in hot water, especially if you occupy too much space. What appears to be the first ever arrest for so-called manspreading was revealed in a new report.

Two Latino men were allegedly arrested for manspreading, sitting with knees wide open, thus occupying two seats on May 22 at 12:11am, according to a report released by the Police Reform Organizing Project in New York. This is probably the first time manspreading has led to an arrest and court appearance.

Two Latino men? really? Hmmm....It does make one wonder about racial profiling

Riding the NY subway after midnight can be an adventure, but this is just silly - although obviously not to Latino men.

Unfortunately for the state/city/county, the police would have to try to prove that it was inconveniencing or tending to inconvenience another passenger on the train. From the pics, it does not look like anyone was being inconvenienced and the print/TV reports do not mention that there were people that wanted to sit or were being touched by men's knees against their wills. Besides, kudos to Tom Hanks for even taking the NY subway.

Its good to know there is so little real crime in NYC that the taxpayers employees in uniform can stoop to making arrests for how one sits after midnight on the subway and playing music. If the musician is really bad, maybe disturbing the peace, but otherwise is it really bad that people can listen to a good musician for free to make the day a little better?

Are New Yorkers screaming at City Hall about this or just "taking it"?
