Call me a cynic, but when Marc Jacobs invited Cher to be his date at the Met Gala, it seemed a bit suspicious. The iconic singer, who’s shied away from the spotlight in recent years, only making rare appearances at charity galas like amfAR, or other causes she supports, seemed to make an exception for the fashion designer — but why? Because 69-year-old Cherilyn Sarkisian is the new face of Marc Jacobs.

Wearing a floor-length pleated skirt with lace panels, a tuxedo-like leather jacket, and leather gloves, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer is pictured sitting in a metal chair against a red backdrop. Her long black hair is voluminous and textured, in a messed-up bedhead kind of way (and made even more wispy with the obvious help of a wind machine). The legend gives photographer David Sims a “come here — but not too close” mug for the ad, which appears for the first time in print in Women’s Wear Daily.

I saw her show in Vegas a few years ago and loved it. I was sitting in the first row of the balcony, so Marylander's comment of "come here - but not too close" rings true. I could visualize the young Cher, but not close enough to see the plastic surgery.

Right on target as usual!
