The now-famous pothole campaigner who draws comedy phalluses on Ramsbottom's roads is thinking of hanging up his spray can - for fear of arrest.

 

‘*anksy’, a professional artist and surveyor, has caused a worldwide stir with his unconventional antics.

 

His Facebook site now has 17,000 fans and someone has made a video in his honour, posted to the site.

 

But the new attention has him feeling more vulnerable to being rumbled.

 

And he’s now appealing for any solicitors to give him legal advice.

 

He told the M.E.N: “I really appreciate the support I’ve had since the Manchester Evening News ran the story and it’s all been really positive except for the council, which is understandable because it’s embarrassed them, but it’s also overwhelming because it’s gone a bit wild.

 

“I’m worried the police will track me down, I don’t want to get in trouble so I am seriously considering quitting now, I have a family and a job to think about it and despite all the support I know that once I’m arrested, I’m on my own.

 

“Also, if there are any solicitors out there who have had their nice cars wrecked by potholes I’d love some free advice. I don’t use permanent paint so it’s not proper graffiti.”

 

He says he will definitely stop painting in Bury and possibly quit for good.

 

The artist, who has been interviewed by radio stations in America and Canada, added: “I think the interest proves it’s a worldwide problem and it seems to have sparked debate.
