Phoenix, Arizona (AP) In an unusual natural phenomenon, rain fell in the Phoenix area last night, bringing humidity to measurable levels for the first time in decades. Reactions ranged from astonishment to fear, as one resident stated, "There was some strange fog on my bathroom mirror this morning--What is going on here???" Local area businesses experienced a run on cold weather clothing, including long-sleeved shirts, blue jeans, gloves, sweaters and parkas. No casualties have yet been reported from this latest cold snap, with temperatures dipping down to 50 degrees Fahrenheit overnight.

In case anyone takes this (I assume) attempt at levity seriously, let me point out that Phoenix does indeed get temperatures down into the upper 30's at times during January (our coldest month), and occasionally even down close to freezing. (Today was 63 high, 46 low) And, although humidity is usually quite low (10% or less), we do have some humid days and rain (currently 48%).

As we tell newcomers: "We get only 5 or 6 inches of rain a year. It comes on a Thursday afternoon around 5pm..." :)
