Joey Poindexter, a Montgomery County real estate appraiser accused of raping men he picked up at local beer pong tournaments, was convicted on four felony counts Monday and faces his second trial in the case next week.

 

Even more daunting – for Poindexter, at least – he no longer has a defense team, having blurted out during court last week he wanted to discharge his attorneys. The judge responded by quickly asking jurors to step outside the courtroom, whereupon he asked Poindexter, 40, a series of questions and warned him he was making a “ridiculously stupid” decision, but ultimately allowed him to represent himself.

 

On Monday, in Poindexter’s 19-minute closing argument, he spoke about himself in the third-person, acknowledged he met the victim at a beer pong contest inside a College Park bar, bought him drinks and took him home — but insisted the sex they had was consensual.

What a winner! I wish him luck representing himself.

 

I guarantee, though, if the victim had been a women, there would be more than the three comments I saw on the report and at least some of them would ask why she got drunk and went home with him.
