Some friends took me to a small theater in Hollywood the other night. They had tickets to something called PAGEANT.

It's a take off on a beauty contest sponsored by a cosmetics company. During the course of the evening, the contestants compete in the standard contest fare; swimsuit, talent, intellectual (oxymoron?) and in a twist, they each take a shot at Spokeperson for the cosmetic line. The show has orginal songs and some of it is pretty good. the funniest bit is in the second act when "Miss West Coast" does her spokes model stint. I can't say I heard every line in that bit becasue I was laughing so hard, tears were rolling down my face. The comedic timing and physical abilities of the performer were so funny, I can still chuckle about some of the business.

What's the hook? All of the contestant are played in drag. But That is part of the joke of course since they all play it straight. In some ways, the show seems a bit thread bare as equity waiver can. But the energy of the cast more than makes up for it. I have little experience with drag shows, other than a trip to "Lips" in the village with Jim#2 (btmstudNYC) and the show at Le Boy in RIO, (which was entirely in Porteguese), but I enjoyed this show (even tho it got off to a rocky start). My question to drag people is , "where the hell do you stash the equipment? Fer cryin out loud, those swimsuits...dudes, that's gotta hurt.

I give it 4 out of 5 whacks of the tackhammer
