A sheriff in a small town had arrested one man for rape and another for beating up a gas station attendant and robbing him.

 

Being a very small town there was no money for a jail and so in order to raise money the sheriff had the bright idea of handcuffing the defendants in the public square

and inviting the townspeople for $1.00 to either kick the rapist in the balls or punch the robber in the face. Lines formed quickly with some citizens contributing $5.00 or $10.00 for more kicks and hits.

 

An older man waited a bit and got in the line for the robber but when it was his turn he saw that the face was so bloody it would be useless to hit him again so he kicked him in the balls.

The sheriff was so incensed he yelled at the guy "you can't do that". The old man asked "why not"?

 

The sheriff answered "because this is the punch line".
