I doubt the controversy would exist if they'd aimed their satire at the Argentinian team rather than the iconic gaucho. If it weren't for the words and the mocking attitude, this would have passed muster, By citing gauchos, the archetypal Argentinian cowboys, it looks like they're mocking Argentina and Argentine culture rather than razzing the team.

It's too bad no one realized the possible negative connotations of tall blond European men -- from Germany, of all places -- mocking stooped, short (I didn't watch, so I don't know if the men on the Argentine team were shorter than the Germans) men of a Hispanic country whose citizens are likely to be Spanish, Native American, black, or some combination thereof.

Argentina does have a very large native population in the North close to Bolivia and Paraguay, but the rest of the country is mostly White from Spanish, Italian, and Jewish background.

But from the German and English point of view Mediterranean people and Jews ain't white anyways.

thanks for posting, I thought the World cup mania was over.

The video posted in the OP is an exercise video (squat builds lower body strength and agility) and has nothing to do with with the German's soccer team "gaucho dance".

The latter can be seen here:

It's a sort of a "victory dance" - a jig many sports team do to celebrate victory.

Winning the FIFA's World Cup is a big thing in Europe where soccer is a national sport.

As usual Steven is right. Don't take this too seriously, it was just a way (ok, mocking the loosers...) to celebrate the World Cup victory.

+1 - Perhaps some here (*who do not follow more European sports such as football ["soccer" only to Americans] or rugby) are not aware of these victory dances that many teams have.

The German are celebrating the world cup... o J didn't know that.

the video posted by the OP is the "gaucho walk", right? The OP says it... correct? but it's specifically dedicated toward a country and it wouldn't work against others.

The German celebration mocking the Argentinians is about the "Gaucho walk", correct?

Not all "Argies" are gauchos and not all Germans walk straight, but the Germans are mocking the losers on here, the same way the Argentinians would mock them if they had won instead of losing calling them the other N word.

Is a victory dance mocking the loser, nothing more than that.
