I wrote dance reviews for an on line magazine for a number of years thus ballet is close to my heart. I love the third shot. Just in case anyone is interested the sixth shot is a very famous photograph of Rudolf Nureyev. Please don’t make me feel old by asking who the hell was Rudolf Nureyev.

These are beautiful. Yes, ballet's more strenuous than yoga because the movements are made at speed, so there's cardio as well as strength and flexibility. (Though I'm not dissing yoga.)

 

Is it possible that some of the other b&w photos are of Nureyev? The fourth one, for example?

It certainly could be quoththeraven but I doubt it. To the best of my knowledge Nureyev did only one professional nude photo shoot. In the fourth shot the dancer is wearing a dance belt which wouldn't have been Nureyev's style -- with him it was usually all or nothing. Years ago a frontal nude of him was making the rounds with dance fan -- all I can remember about it was that true to the rumors at the time he was hung like a horse.

 

I have both the famous Richard Avedon nude of Nureyev and the frontal nude. You guys are going to laugh at me but unfortunately I don't have a clue how to post them.

Thanks for this wonderful post,Marylander.... I am such a fan of ballet and appreciate these so much !! Ballet dancers have often been used to help train other athletes, because of their ability to control movement and because they are probably in better shape than almost all athletes. Seeing some of the guys jump and do splits in mid air is mind boggling. Epigonos, I hope you can find someone who can help you figure out how to post those two pictures of Nureyev... he was indeed very well hung...

 

These photos remind me of a chance encounter I had in Chicago many years ago with a member of the Bolshi, who will remain nameless. It was during the time that all artists had security escorts to keep them from defecting. I met him in a rest room in downtown Chicago at a hotel where he was staying.... to make a long story short, we were able to spend the afternoon in his hotel room and have a lot of fun together. I can still picture him as if the encounter occurred yesterday.

 

So, thanks again, Marylander for these wonderful pictures of incredibly gifted dancers.

This is wonderful, but I'm lost. Who? Where? What? Why? When? Did I miss an intro? Help! It reminds me of a video I saw years ago of Nureyev dancing naked. It was so beautiful and natural. And there was plenty swinging because he was hung! More naked dancing I say!

There was a huge rock above a deep pool and they took turns doing dance leaps and turns off the rock into the water below. So many beautiful bodies. I was in heaven. Ah! My hippy days.
