I don't think it's a "big fucking deal" but he had one to do and he's an actor. How lame is it to screw up a name that badly when it's your profession? And it was funny and he looked creepy. So we're talking about it.

I think there's a point being missed here. To performers, the Oscars are a very big deal and I'm sure that even as big a theatre star as Idina Menzel was flattered, flustered, happy, nervous, excited and anxious about singing a nominated song on the program It's a big fucking deal for her and Travolta screwing up her name, as unintentional as it was, must have spoiled the moment a little bit for her. But pro that she is, she had a sense of humor about it, as her tweets showed subsequently. He has been sincerely apologetic and very embarrassed about it. I wonder if he would have been as gracious and funny about it as she was had someone messed up HIS name as they read it when he was nominated for "Saturday Night Fever" and "Pulp Fiction". "The nominees are yada, yada, yada and Jon Ravioli. Or Sean Ravolta. or Shamus The Bolta."

I think his moment at the Oscars is going to be as hard to live down as Rob Lowe's dancing with Snow White was!

Having him flub her name might have spoiled the moment for her a bit at first, but she should be grateful now. He's gotten her so much more publicity than if he'd gotten her name right!
