I've just finished reading this amazing little book called "Keep The River on your Right" by Tobias Schneebaum. Published originally in 1969, it tells of the author's odyssey in the Peruvian Amazon. In the year of Our Lord 1955 he wandered into the jungle, driven by an urge to see what was there. The result, as chronicled by this book, was a year-long stay with a group of "undiscovered" indigenous people. They were actually Cannibals. He lived with them, learned their culture, "ate" with them (!) and loved them, in a way that breaks your heart by the end of the book. He's also gay, and slept with them!

I'm just curious as to whether anyone else on this board has read this book (or his other, "Where The Spirits Dwell") and what you thought of it. I now know a documentary film was released in 2001 about Mr. Schneebaum and his adventures, but I missed it totally! I do live under a rock, after all. Maybe it's the martinis talking, but I was truly moved by this book.
