"Barcelona's legendary Sagrada Família basilica has been under construction since 1882 and finally the end is in sight.

When completed in 2026, long-dead architect Antoni Gaudí's crowning achievement will look pretty much exactly like a massive alien spaceship constructed completely out of stone.

The project has faced innumerable setbacks over the years, including a devastating fire in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War that left most of Gaudí's plans for the building destroyed. Architects and builders have been painstakingly working to recreate the Catalan hero's vision ever since.

Gaudí' used to joke that his client, God, was in no hurry to see the church completed. The project is entirely funded by private donations and ticket sales by visiting tourists."
