I remember seeing advertised at least one alternate version of the play "The Odd Couple". It was with a female cast, one of whom was Sally Struthers.

I also remember that there was a black version, too.

Were there others? And was there a gay one?

I'm almost positive there has not been a gay version.

The female version originally starred Sally Struthers and Rita Moreno on Broadway

The was a black version of the tv show that was on in the early 80's that starred Demond Wilson and Ron Glass

I actually think that a gay version of the Odd Couple could be hysterical. I know people who have see both stage versions (male and female) and most thought the female version was funnier. I can only imagine what would be done with a gay version.

When you think about it, the Tony Randall character in the 70's TV Odd Couple was gay, in everything but name.

True that his name was Felix Unger, not Gay.

Otherwise, I think you're judging the character's sexuality based solely on stereotypes - aren't we beyond that?

I think a gay Odd Couple would be hilarious. So would a version where one character is straight, and the other is gay. But only if they tweak the stereotypes, and have the fussy, neat character be straight, and the messy one be gay. That would be awesome.
