Calling all Brits!

During my upcoming trip to London I look forward to many things! You know, the basic tourist stuff (and meeting clients, of course). But I am also very interested in attending the tennis matches at Wimbledon, particularly because of my tennis upbringing.

I have searched for tickets with online brokers and find their rates to be astronomical! I have also been on the Wimbledon website, and they indicate that there are approximately 6000 grounds passes released each day up to the quarterfinal round. Apparently, the only way to attain grounds passes is to line the day of the event, I've heard as early as 5am---EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Might any of you suggest another way? Might you have a contact I should try? The fact is, I'd rather have a ticket in advance.

Anyway, I'd love your thoughts.

You can get into the grounds but the show-courts are all sold-out in advance, and you would need to wait for returns as people leave.

If you just want the atmosphere, the ground tickets are OK but Yes, you have to line up and you can usually see matches on the outside courts. Also, there is a public screen inside the grounds showing you a match on one of the show-courts.

To buy a ticket, you should look online. Or check out the classified ads in The Times. Tickets that are advertised and can be resold legitimately are debenture seats (and the ticket is so marked).Do NOT buy from a tout outside the ground: those tickets are fakes.

I have 2 tickets for the Men's Final. If my friend cannot come, maybe we could barter some services.......

I surely appreciate your advice... It seems to me that I'll need to take my chances to attain a grounds pass for Wimbledon. Is it worth is? Yes!

However, I'd surely love to explore the idea of bartering.

Mate, you want to go to Wimbledon, but not sure if a grounds pass is worth it. What in God's name interested you in the matches? People fly half way around the world to get there and you are not sure if it is worth it. Get a life. It is a Grand Slam. Won by many of your fellow Americans. Depending on the match, it will take more than your bum to get in. Have a nice day.

I have been able to get into the other three Grand Slams (US Open,

French Open and Australian Open) by a variety of efforts: buying ticket outside the gates, return tickets, disabled seating that becomes available at the last minute when a disabled person does not claim the seat), but Wimbledon was always the one tournament I could not crack.

Find out a little more about buying tickets on the black market, try ebay. If all else fails, give the ground pass a try. Keep us up to date on what happens. Good luck.
