I was wondering if my confidentiality is guaranteed when making a donation online? Unfortunately, I have found out that my personal information has been compromised twice in the past when I have made donations or have used my credit card to make a payment for a gay website.

That thing on its own gives me pause on how my personal information has been used abused. A major PAUSE.

Steven, you seem to be implying that 'gay' websites are prone to this - more so than other sites?

How was your personal information compromised - was it shared (as many companies sell/share customer lists) or was it something more serious?

I'm looking forward to hear from three people who post here (they know who they are) who have collected money from me and the way they have "shared" my personal information with their "friends".

Then I can make my own conclusions.

Steven. Not surprised at all. I have donated to a number of reputable charites and have been very upset at the results. No credit card information shared, but most of these were handled by third parties and I was inundated with calls and mailings asking for donations. Apparently it is common practice to sell certain information. As a result, I donate to very few causes unless they explain in writing the exact process of what becomes of this information.

Continue to go after these creeps. This type usually depends on the fact that peoplr will just give up on their attempts.

Before donating to a charity, it's a good idea to look them up on http://www.charitynavigator.org It not only tells you how efficient they are, but also gives you their privacy policies (among a lot of other information). That isn't to say that I won't donate to a 3* charity if it's something I truly believe in.
