I was playing with my occasional toy, and trying to record from a CD to my mini disk player (the best for long flights) but for the first time, the Sony Open MPEG Jukebox did not recognize the CD as an audio CD. When I checked, the CD, it said that it was "copy controlled." I have not seen that before. Has this happened to you? Is it a trend? Can it be circumvented?

Well it could be either circumvented or uncircumvented, in which case you could still cut it but chances are it would never play the same again. ;-)

Sounds to me like a Zionist conspiracy!

There is a good chance that the copy protection can be circumvented. It is done by taking a black magic marker and running it around the outer 1/8" to 1/4" of the CD (on the silver side).

If you search Google you should find a more detailed explanation of this work-around.

I am 2 for 2 in greating great advice this week - first cheap on-line escorts in Berlin and now ways to circumvent copy-controlled cds. I guess I should try my luck for lottery predictions next!:-)

Actually, my computing friend advised me that you can destroy the cd and cd player's laser by doing that. In the end, I now use WinMX software to download the music. I even found the same offbeat Brazilian cd on-line so the record companies still lose!
