Thanks for posting this. The (familiar) actor playing Turing does this scene a little differently than I imagine the real Turing speaking with a friend about what happened. Nothing I've read gives me the sense that Turing "confessed" rebelliously, but simply because he simply couldn't imagine anyone getting upset about something so trivial as hiring rough trade.

 

But in this scene, when he's saying he did it only to get to the business of retrieving his stolen watch the (attractive) smugness of the actor indicates that he was in fact trying to shock the police, and, slightly, his friend. To what end, who knows.

 

There's a play from the 80s (90s?) called Breaking The Code. It's not a good play, but it's worth reading if you are interested in Turing. A crap gay writer, whose name I forget, wrote a VERY bad book about him maybe 10 years ago. He's the same writer that got into trouble for plagiarizing in his book "The Page Turner".

 

I love turing. Even without the amazing enigma program, his other math achievements were remarkable.
