Mysterious Skin is a marvel. Crap book, amazing film. Nearly every time I see Greg Araki at the Gay Starbucks I compliment him on his taste of music, and ask him what he's listening to these days.

If you don't know indie music, buy any of his soundtracks for a solid crash-course.

No comment on Happiness (other than, you're wrong :-) )

Oh, I thought the book was pretty good, too. Then again, I liked Happiness...

I want to thank you for posting this, BC, though I can't say that I "enjoyed" it. I have never been exposed to anything like this, and it was mesmerizing. The wholesale destructiveness of pedophilia is told in such a personalized way--very affecting and moving. Thanks again.

I remember renting this move many years ago and being pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It also started me on my path to lusting after Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who up until then was just the annoying long-haired kid form 3rd Rock From the Sun. All of a sudden, he became an actual actor, and also a sexual being in my eyes. To this day, I think he's a pretty darn good actor. And cute as a button, too! Loved that opening scene from when he hosted SNL this season and he stripped in a parody of Magic Mike. <3

I'm definitely in the minority where Happiness is concerned. Nothing offends me, but I feel like his movies have that kind of "American Horror Story" quality, shock and hate just for shock and hate's sake. I much prefer Neil LaBute's brand of hatred, In THe Company of Men, Your Friends and Neighbors., et al. Seems more real, more raw. Todd Solondz just feels showy to me.

I JUST watched "Mysterious Skin" on the way to DC & LOVED it!

Certain scenes really "got to" me...in both a disturbing yet sympathetic way.

Overall, I thought it was VERY well done.
