You seem to be contradicting your own statement, since 300 pesos is less than $25. Is that a typo?

First let me say that I love Mexico. I lived there for a year learning Spanish many, many years ago and have returned on a regular basis since the 1970's. You name a place in Mexico and I have probably been there.

 

If you are looking for a very gay friendly Mexican beach resort then Puerto Vallarta is the place you will want to visit. Certain neighborhoods in Puerto Vallarta are still very Mexican if you also want to see "authentic" Mexico. The Zona Romantica if full of gay bars and the best strip club in town "Wet". The restaurant scene in P.V. is, outside of Mexico City, the best in the country.

 

I used to visit Acapulco once a year but it is in major decline. It is a huge port city with a population of well over two million. All of the restaurants I used to enjoy are now closed. I always stayed at the Las Brisas Hotel which was and still is absolutely wonderful. The majority of the rooms have private swimming pools and also have wonderful views of Acapulco Bay. The gay scene is really not much anymore. Acapulco has had so much bad publicity regarding cartel violence that the tourist industry has suffered.

 

Cancun on the Caribbean is beautiful but appears to be full of overweight straight middle aged couples from the Mid-West celebrating some anniversary. They are frequently drunk and usually loud. Cancun does have the advantage of being quite near the Maya ruins of Chichen Itza if that sort of thing interests you. There really doesn’t seem to be much of a gay scene in Cancun.

 

As far as I’m concerned Cabo is simply Palm Springs on the Ocean (or Gulf). I don’t like the desert thus I’m not much of a fan of either Palm Springs or Cabo. There isn’t much authentic Mexican about Baja California. Cabo and the other neighboring resorts have become major handouts for straight golfers and fishermen. Frankly Palm Springs is much more gay than Cabo.

I just came back to NY from 6 weeks working in Mexico City. I lived there 10 years during the 90's, and it was great to be back. The city has definitely changed in this last decade, definitely much more "americanized" but still with a fantastic local flavor, the poverty and apparently the crime rate higher than before, the richest richer than before (there are GORGEOUS residential and commercial areas in Polanco, Lomas, Coyoacan, San Angel, Santa Fe) and the traffic has become unbearable. Gay life is much more open than it used to be. Gay marriage is a fact in Mexico City, and you see many young couples hand in hand in the subway (still the best way to get around to avoid the horrendous traffic, even if it doesn't connects all the areas) or in the streets, something unthinkable when I was living there. The Zona Rosa (Pink Zone) is quite gay but also quite decadent. Many young hustlers in the street at night in the Calle Hamburgo (where I was staying), some of them very hot to look at, but I was never brave enough to ask one or two very built hot hunks who were pretty much every night outside my building to follow me upstairs notwithstanding their inviting smiles and winks! I found a hot guy who was advertising on adam4adam and Manhunt, he was the only guy for hire I had, for the rest I was quite lucky to hook up for free on those sites and Grindr. Good luck!
