Interestinly, I have hired quite a few escorts who have earned post-graduate degrees... and that includes several who were lawyers... Accordingly, they as well as others who work in the field are indeed worthy of at least a modicum of respect.

Hey Whipped, i just want to be VERY clear that I was in no way questioning the intelligence or education of the escorts. However, they have chosen, at least in part, if not totally to earn their living escorting. And it was to THAT point alone that I was commenting and drawing a differential to other Service providers. To me, debating the merits of escorts vs porn actors is simply silly.

I was just reading a blog post from a gay porn star. He was quite upset because someone had emailed him and asked him if he escorted. He got quite irate about the whole and declared pretty vehemently that he isn't an escort.

Can someone help me understand why anyone would be that opposed to escorting and yet okay with doing porn? I can understand if he just said, "I'm sorry, I don't do that." But to get quite pissed off about it seems strange.

Of course, escorts and porn stars do essentially the same job: both earn a living by getting paid to perform sexual acts. I can think of three differences off the top of my head. One is that escorting is done in private, whereas porn gets recorded for the whole world to witness. The second is that if the client requests specific sexual activity for a specific fee, then escorting is usually illegal, whereas porn videotaping is usually done in jurisdictions where it's legal. The third difference is that porn actors get paid to have sex with guys who are probably more attractive, on average, than the average escort's clients. From a societal standpoint, however, neither is considered a "high prestige" job--both are sex workers. I would venture to say that if you polled most families, most parents would probably be equally uncomfortable saying "My son does porn for a living," as to saying "My son works as an escort."

So by that respect, it is rather ridiculous for a porn star to act indignant at the suggestion that they might escort. I, for one, would rather be an escort than a porn actor. A respectable college student might, for example, escort in order to help finance his college education, then move on to a more high-prestige job such as a business executive, doctor, lawyer, or perhaps even a politician (although the latter would be the riskiest). Doing porn acting, however, probably precludes a whole range of future careers (not to say that some former porn actors don't eventually get quite lucrative careers--often in the porn business itself).

"Do you feel like every time you get involved in an argument, you have got to win? If you know that someone is wrong, and you have a solution, do you feel like, you’ve to argue with them until they embrace your point? You can try, but if the person you’re arguing with is a fool, you will be hitting your head against a rock! It won’t work.

You don’t need to win an argument. If someone doesn’t want to listen to you, leave them be. If you tell them your point, and they don’t want to listen, keep quiet and let it go! I admit there are some who need a little convincing to get your point, but there are those who are simply fools, who take pride in arguing; believing they are always right. Don’t waste your time with those.

I’ll admit, there are some arguments that are constructive, when both parties are seeking a solution. Those kinds of arguments are rewarding. Both parties will be helping each other to come out with a better solution. But, in most cases, people argue for the sake of arguing. Arguing for the sake of arguing, is a waste of time.

There are people in this world you just need to ignore if they behave or act in a foolish manner. They take pride in making other people angry. They enjoy winning arguments no matter how wrong or ignorant they might be. Some of them know which buttons to press to get you angry, and if you decide to argue with them, you’ll be heading towards their trap.

Fools like to see you getting angry, swearing, speaking negative words or getting involved in a fight with them. They do what they do fully aware that they’re tickling you to get upset. Trying to argue with those guys, thinking they might get your point or understand how you do things, will not work. Don’t try to prove anything to them. Your only solution is to watch, listen, observe and keep your mouth shut.

If you feel tempted to answer to a fool, don’t do it. Ignore them, even if you feel like screaming to them. Your silence will prevent you from converting to their cult of foolishness. If you argue with a fool, you’ll become a fool just like them, and you’ll make a fool of yourself!

IT IS BEST TO BE THOUGHT A FOOL….THEN SPEAK AND REMOVE ALL DOUBT……

Learn a great habit of keeping your mouth shut whenever a fool is in front of you. Let them do the talking, and you do the ignoring!"

Well said Steven...

Thank you Steven Draker and Simon Preacher...

Since Steven had thoughtfully placed his post in "quotes" and since it was not posted in his normal blue font I was positive that the post was not an original 'off the top of his head' SD original posting. Plus, I could swear that I had read it somewhere or someplace previously. At any rate, here is the link... and thank you Steven for posting it as it certainly is good advice to follow... and at times not even I have followed it letter for letter... Consequently, it is advice that we all should consider...

Just by THIS post alone, its proven that YOU are not following your unsolicited advice. And if a person doesnt take their OWN advice, how credible ARE they ? Not so foolish afterall, huh?

But I so appreciate the effort you put forth in writing it !

Sorry, Steven, but you did NOT keep your mouth shut. Nor did you choose to present your views - you pretty much went straight to 'name calling'.

I suppose you WANT me to see a difference ? In my mind, all parties are getting PAID to perform and have sex on demand. Its as simple as that to me. The minutia details are insignificant IMO. Of course, you as an escort have a different perspective, and thats fine. No need for me do do any searches, but thanks for the suggestion.

JJK, I think you're only focusing on the most basic similarities and ignoring the significant differences; looking for the lowest common denominator will allow you to view lots of things as being 'basically' the same. (e.g., a slice of chocolate cake and a bagel are both things made with flour which you eat.)

I think what everyone is forgetting is the point being made by the original post, and its implication. The conversation between the guy and porn star seem to allude to the fact that the porn star considered "actting" in porn to be BETTER, or more respectable than escorting. All I was trying to say is that one is not better than the other, that to me they are both on the same level. Was not looking to start a war of words, or dissect the thread to the point of ridiculousness. To repeat my point, when comparing porn actting to escorting, I dont consider one to be better or

more respectable than the other. They are both the same to ME.

And to those claiming that THIS has turned nasty, I havent heard a single nasty comment yet, simply civil conversation about a topic, which is basically the objective of this site.

Well, it WAS teetering on the edge of turning nasty! But, you know, JJ, I get your point that one job is no better than the other - they just require a different skill base. I did get a chuckle from Unicorn's post though about the alleged respectability of a business exec (Enron anyone? Or maybe Bernie Maddov), doctors (that one is up for grabs, I think). lawyers (huh? What do you call 200 lawyers thrown into the ocean? A good start), and politicians (so preposterous to consider this a respectable position). Still I suppose there are plenty of respectable ones. . .I guess civility has been saved and the free speech world as we know it has survived.

Yes, what is the difference between Blagojevich and other pols? The others have not been caught...yet.
