Recently I was approached by a 28-year old hunky British "working guy" who plied me with reams of documentation showing his outstanding debt. This was all sparked by by "ex" who claimed 1/2 of his house after their relationship dissolution. The "ex" was also claimed to be on the title of the home, added there by the trusting lover during the beginning of their love affair 5 years ago.

After 300 emails, the outpouring of professed love and desire for a long-term (cross-Atlantic) relationship continued unabated. He sent me videos of his handsome self.

Everything seems plausible--almost like the gay equivalent of a Russian bride. He wanted a rich Yank as a life-partner...all without even seeing me.

Have any others encountered such attempts at "long term relationship cons"....and are they all "cons"?

Yeah, this is like giving a Czech working guy that you have met with your phone number...worst thing that a guy can do. The old advice about it "being too good to be true" would apply here (IMHO). While I am sure you are a great guy, if he has never seen you , or spent any time with you, it is highly unlikely that this is anything more than a hunt for a papa to pay the bills. At best, perhaps an "arrangement" is possible, but I would urge caution until you actually know one another in person.

Jake, I'm thinking like you're thinking. How did all this come about? 300 emails? Anton's got it--IMO, this is a hoot if you're in to it but otherwise a waste of time and possibly dangerous if you hand over any personal information.

I'd say in these few short posts, you've received honest and good advice. Too good to be true? How could it be anything but. I realize this has a fantasy element to it that is appealing, but no adult with even a minimum of intelligence and horse sense (both of which I know you have more than the minimal amount) should fall for this.

On the other hand, if you do go in for this, then perhaps I could interest you in a bridge purchase as a real estate venture that is sure to net you untold millions and set you up for life. PM me for details;-)

No no - wait - wouldn't you need/want a bridge to go over the swampland? I mean sometimes you just don't want to walk around in the swamp. You want to walk over it and not get your shoes wet. I think there is room here for both of our offers.
