Seeking advice from anyone who's visited Singapore

I have an upcoming trip to Singapore, and one of my guidebooks warns that importing "pornography" is illegal. Anyone here have any idea what they consider pornography? Any nudity? Just erections? Do they search incoming tourists intensely? If they find it, do they just confiscate, or are there criminal penalties? Caning?

Unfortunately, I don't believe you can't get a "caning" in Singapore if you are over the age of 50, so there is really no point in bringing along a stash of pornography. Some used to try bringing in chewing gum, but to no avail, they only got fined.

I have been to singapore many times. Why do u need to bring porn wi u when u surely are taking a computer. They dont do detail searching unless u look suspicious whatever that means. Drugs are obviously the most serious thing and so aboslutely not. Ur computer and accessing ur fave porn sites all work well there...leave ur paper porn at home.

Good one, jackboy. Maybe they'd make a caning exception if you showed up chewing gum AND clutching a stash of porn? At least it would demonstrate a sincere desire to be caned and if they really care about the tourist trade, they may go along with it and cane you just to get the word out to a tourist niche market.

BTW, I was just looking up the escort scene, and there are 299 escorts listed in rentboy.com alone! Is this for real? I've never thought of Singapore as the male escort capital of the world, but that sure is a lot of escorts for one city. Do the clients come in from Malaysia or Indonesia or something?
