Horny Goat Weed

Has anyone tired the aptly named Horny Goat Weed? It is essentially herbal Viagra as it inhibits nitric oxide which increases blood flow "there" and everywhere else in the body as well. Accordingly it supposedly also enhances workouts in the gym. The recommended dose is two 500 mg capsules when taken as a supplement, but prior to "other" activity the dosage is increased to four capsules to be taken about 90 minutes in advance of the festivities.

 

Any experiences out there? It is certainly not expensive, so it is more than worth taking a shot.... but is it at all effective??? This inquiring mind would like to know.

Horny Goat Weed works not by inhibiting, but by increasing levels of nitric oxide. This in turn relaxes the smooth muscle in your blood vessels (hemodilation), so there's less total peripheral resistance and increased blood flow throughout your body. I haven't tried it, but I have used various nitric oxide supplements for bodybuilding which are very effective at increasing your vascularity and prolonging your pumped look after working out. However, I didn't note any particular impact from them down below.

HGW and other similar herbal supplements may or may not work for any one individual. For me they do have a certain effect - TONS of precum being one plus - but the downside for me was that I had to pee like 12 times a day. After about 10 days off I was back to normal. YMMV

Mark... you are correct. I meant to say that like Viagra it inhibits the enzyme that breaks down nitric oxide.

 

As for nitric oxide bodybuilding supplements some have said that they are a scam, others say they are unsafe if taken in too high of a dose, others have said they are safe if taken properly.
