All governors and mayors along the East Coast are urging/have urged people to stay inside for their own safety – and on every channel a weatherman is doing a live report outside or in the ocean surf, being pelted by R-A-I-N and W-I-N-D (duh, it’s a hurricane, look at the rain and wind – really scintilatting commentary like that, as if we didn’t know it was raining). And seemingly one was being pelted by a “sea foam” of raw sewage being dumped into the ocean ("It doesn't taste great." -- how insightful!). Yep, maybe they have meteorology degrees and are telegenic, but the ones standing outside definitely not the brightest bulbs in the bunch, must be Jackass wannabees.

Hope everyone in Irene's path is surviving the hurricane OK.

Ivan, I think it's even sadder than that. I don't these reporters have a choice. This is what their bosses want because this is what the PUBLIC wants. People won't continue to sit and watch reporters in the studio. People would just take the info they want and then change the channel. However, they'll sit there glued to the tv for hours on end if they see video of what's going on. Sad, but true.

And how many times have we seen intrepid cub reporter, be they meterologist or not, being forced into a wind tunnel to show everyone what it's like standing in a 75, or 100 or 125 MPH wind. Like we all haven't seen that same video hundreds of time. I think it's like some sort of fraternity hazing ritual.

Actually I had never seen that until Friday, when a senior correspondent on the ABC Evening News demonstrated the effects. Guess I don't watch the Weather Channel enough. :)
