I got my first and only tatoo at age 65, the year I retired and got my ear pierced and stop wearing an expensive hair replacement. Yep---when people asked what I was going to do when I retired, I recited the list---those three things. Don't regret any of them, but the question was about the tatoo, so let me stay relevant.

My tatoo is what the Montreal men called "tribal" and it located on my back just above my shoulder blades and normally not visible excpt when I go to the beach, the shower, etc. It's black and even though I am 71, I haven't noticed my skin saggng---at least there!!! Don't regret getting it, don't plan on any more. It's a reminder of the decades I spent living in West Africa and the people I loved there. I think NYTomcat gave a very thorough and spot-on list of why people get tatooes---thanks for saving me the trouble.

I have one for now. It is Aramaic and says mem lamed hey. I hope to start one of two more tattoos by the fall, either a portrait of my grandma who passed a few yrs back or (and I am spacing on the proper name) the open palm with the eye in the center, it's known as the evil eye but there is an official name. Grandma would go on my right fore arm and the palm/eye on my left fore arm. I've thought about getting something on my neck but we'll see on that one as I haven't decided if I want to go that far.

Hugs,

Greg

Like Samai, my treat to myself upon retirement was a tattoo. It is around my ankle, and I do get a lot of compliments. So I'm glad I did it.

Good for you. Can I ask what made you choose whatever image it is.
