Ok, again I come seeking your advice and I hope you'll be patient with me and respond understanding that

I respect this site and those that use it and hope I can get some advice. I'm visiting Provincetown over the

4th of July; have any one had that experience? Preference for location to stay; costs are high during

that time but any advice? And, is there anyone that would say, stay away during that time, hey

I'm a 57 year old closet gay guy, likes to go out have some fun but not get kicked around and

shoved around by younger studs, I just want to have fun..Rocky, and thanks for those who respond.

Hi Rocky-

I visited Ptown on July 4th weekend several years back and had a wonderful time. We rented a small house, and no it wasn't terribly expensive. What I really like about Provincetown was that while it has plenty of bars and nightlife, there's also plenty of non-scene things to do there such as biking, tennis, etc. It was a very relaxing time and I really felt like I had gotten away for a while.

I don't think you need to be "worried about being shoved around by younger studs" \

As I believe the July 4th Weekend/Week is "Womens Week" in PTown -

So you are more likely to be run over by post-pardem depressed Lesbian Mothers with ninja throwing stars and armour-plated strollers protecting their offspring.

The following week is USUALLY --- BEAR Week in PTown - where any mauling/shoving/fondling will most likely be

consentual, constant, collegial and cum-filled. Please feed the Bears - now unzip and . . .

Hi Rocky,

I usually avoid P-Town in July and August because of the mob scene. They do close off some of the streets in the evening so you won't get run over. Most of the guesthouses are in the West End, as well as The Boatslip Hotel which is usually the center of the action, starting with their afternoon Tea Dance. The other main bar, The Atlantic (?) is just down the street. Both are comfortable for the not so young, with plenty of places to hang and watch the action. There's a little too much action at The Boatslip for me to feel comfortable at night, so I stay at other places like Land's End which is several blocks away from the bars. I also like The Red Inn which has my favorite restaurant and the Anchor Inn always has nice rooms and not too much craziness. You can rent a bike and get out to some of the beaches in the National Seashore Park. If you're driving you can get out to some of their other beaches where you can be relatively alone. I always like to take a sunset cruise to see the whales and I also go to The Moors restaurant in homage to the Portuguese! I think Girl's Splash will be later in the month, after Bear Week which you might enjoy more. May and September are the times I like the best. Memorial Day weekend is when all the shops and restaurants reopen, and it's very festive. September is usually good weather with lots of travel deals as everyone closes up for the winter. I think the usual P-Town crowd is a lot more fun and easy going than some of the circuit party crowds.

There is plenty to do in Ptown during July 4th weekend and I'm sure you won't be bored or pushed and shoved. Do go to tea dance, as it is a nice experience to be outside at the end of the day and have a drink. Do take advanatge of the beautiful nature in and around Ptown and Herring Cove Beach and the National Park. You can whale watch, too. The bars are nice, so check out The Crown & Anchor, Atlantic House, the Vault and the Gifford House bars (nice porch side bar!). Plenty of good dining places, such as, Ciro & Sal's, Sal's, Mews, Red Inn, and my two faves, Devon's, and Dalla Cucina (right cross the street from each other). So many places to stay, check out the Ptown websites for more info on rates and availability. Beware, at one time some guesthouses and B&B's had a 5 day minimum stay but since the recession they have stopped that. My usual location is The Benchmark Inn in the West End on Dyer St. just off Commercial St.

Just responding to this email has made me realize it's time to make my own plans for another visit to Ptown this summer!

Enjoy.
