Hey JAG -- I haven't figured out why this year they're giving everyone til the 18th. But who's complaining?

Actually, knowing how some much some of our fellow forum members are into the S&M scene, I can imagine some would like tax day to come 365 days a year. :)

From the IRS website:

Taxpayers will have until Monday, April 18 to file their 2010 tax returns and pay any tax due because Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, falls this year on Friday, April 15. By law, District of Columbia holidays impact tax deadlines in the same way that federal holidays do; therefore, all taxpayers will have three extra days to file this year.

Thanks Kevin. We don't let them have full representation in Congress but we will let them give us a couple of extra days to pay our taxes.

Makes sense.

And four for state returns in Massachusetts and Maine (shot heard 'round the world). Due the 19th!

In Mass I think it is Patriots Day, Boston Marathon. Maine--???. In New Hamp. where I grew up, last Monday in April is a state holiday - Fast Day. Why it is called that, don't know...but the urban legend says it is the last day of the year that the farmers can "go to Boston" to get things done before planting season starts. The State Motto is "Live Free or Die" or as I prefer to say "Live Freeze or Die."

Painful Tax Day. ARGH. Found out the Mrs. has taken a lot of money out of her 401K with no tax - State or Federal - withheld....and I am talking six figures. Looks like separate returns this year!!!
