Was surprised there has not been some discussion about the final selection made last night on "IDOL". I can't be the only one addicted to that "show".

Every year I say that I am not going to get hooked on this show, but it has happened again this year, mainly

because of the little Italian boy, Stefano. I just want to curl up with him and hold him. He is so adorable!

What about that hunky contruction type guy. He would have kept me glued for weeks. There have been several real hotties in the past. ONe in particular whose name I can't exactly remember but it like "two first names" -- Michael James of Bill Todd or something like that.

This is the first year where, despite liking very much the panel of judges, I have not watched a single episode of Idol, and honestly have not missed it. It's me I know, as it seems the show still, gets stratospheric ratings, but somehow on the night(s) it is on, I always have something else to catch my attention or I am just out and doing ogther things with friends.

I'm now going to start watching... have felt the first weeks were way too manipulative and a waste of time in the past... Look forward to tuning in now that the dust has settled.

I have watched all but one episode so far. A few observations.

I kind of like the huge cut last week and for the most part agreed with who was voted in. Not sure about Karen Rodriguez but not a terrible singer maybe too much schmaltz in the song Hero. I would have taken Lauren Turner, shocked she did not even get a chance in the sing off. I did like the sing off, but not he 1 hour of wasted dragging out time, prior to that. Also last time we had a Haily on the show we could not get rid of her and she should have been gone 4 weeks earlier.

 

I still do not understand why the contestants can not use an instrument all the way through. It seems a bit silly if you want them to sing as they would if they were recording a record and they would use an instrument.

 

Amazing after all the years the number of contestants who come to perform, who claim they have watched the show all their lives and yet make the same mistakes as contestants from years before. At least two of the contestants who were eliminated sang songs they even admited they would not sing. Then why sing it. Jordan and Tim and both looked like good bets.

 

Dont sing former Idol winner songs, Julie and Naima. Naima came back in the sing off and sang her heart out and gave the best performance of the bunch but last person in. Julie that was an awful immitation performance of Kelly. Dont ever sing, Kelly, Carrie or Fantasia on the show.

 

You have to be likeable all the way through Clint man you gave Jacee, 15 yo, the boot from group and fans did not forget. You sang okay but you were going to have to blow it out to do it sorry you fell short.

 

Randy does not like people singing Mariah, Whitney and Stevie. Karen's Spanish version was okay, but Clint Suspicion Stevie just dont cut it.

 

Judges Randy big improvement over past seasons. Steven I dont expect everything to makes sense but here on in need to be a bit more industry savy, is performance going to sell or just same rehash. JLO toughen up babe, just because they try does not mean it is going to sell records or Itune.

 

There is talent here:

Casey you are interesting and cant wait to hear what intruments you infuse into your performances.

Paul stay quirky, America likes different, but maybe not that chicken dancing okay.

Jacob just remember less is more sometimes.

James sames as Jacob less is more sometimes.

Pia I hope you are more than a one hit wonder.

Lauren I dont know if you can hang in there, this show wears people out.

Lastly for me my dark horse is Naima when all was on the line you gave the performance of the night so prove it every week. This is not "Next top Fashion Designer."

The rest I dont care cant see any of them lasting more than a couple of shows. Actually how about another group cut next week, another 4 would be good.

Hey the kid has a great voice likeable personality. Lets see how does with his first non-country song. He was lucky to survive group day with no stage presence.

If he leaned any further on the chair to the side it would have fallen over last week.

He is a great kid and should head to Nashville immediately.

Let us see how he does these first two weeks, assuming one of them is not Country week.

Never was there a person that song selection is more critical.

Does he have potential, sure he does.

His competition for those votes are going to come from Lauren and Paul.

With the girls splitting some of those votes it is going to be hard if cannot broaden his appeal.

He does look a bit like Alfred E Neuman.

I think top 5 is possible but also think it is just likely he could go home just into the top 10.

My thinking is along the lines that America loves fuzzy wuzzy adorable - that's how we got Lee DeWyse and Taylor Hicks. Scotty will get the grandmothers vote, should be a real red state favorite. Most any genre of song can be given a country flavor, assume he'll head in that direction. Plus the guy can sing and a Nashville career is guaranteed. Sorta Alfred E. Newman does Garth Brooks.

I used to watch all of American Idol. Now I wait until Hollywood week. Though I do miss Simon, I do still enjoy the show. I'm still not sure if I like the new judges..JLo and Steven Tyler. For some reason I still want to see Paula in that middle seat. Though he was just ok..I wanted the ship builder muscle boy to go a little further. It was soooooo hot to watch..who cares if he sang well or not

First top 13 performance

 

I realize it was "Sing a Song of Your Idol" night, it was not can I dress up like my Idol night. Rule #1 be yourself.

For that reason alone Ashton "Diana Ross" and Karen "Selena" will be the last ones on stage with Ryan and I think "Diana Ross" sorry Ashton is going home. That said I would not mind Karen going home to a psychiatrist for her immature obsession and include mom with that "ridiculous" Selena dress up at 5 video.

 

The most original performance was Paul, doing someone who I did not know, a song I never heard of, and dancing even more than last week. I would rather see him with a guitar, but he is an original and people will talk about him.

 

I mentioned James and Jacob earlier comment "less is more", one listened the other did not and the performances showed it. James was brilliant really showed his voice last night and did Paul McCartney. McCartney's brilliance are his lyrics. James put those words to music, his voice shined and let the words flow through him. Jacob's performance of R Kelly was shouty and over the top. Hated the gospel choir, he should always sing on his own, when he hears choir he has to shout over them. Great singer but less is more. I would have taken the soft approach.

 

Cash how did you know Fuzzy Wozzy Scotty would do Garth last night. Well I was not worried for him these first couple of weeks.

 

My opinion the stand outs. (I usually sleep on this first and who do I remember singing without going to the list good and bad)

It was great to see Adam Lambert back on the Idol stage last night. His acoustic rendition of "Aftermath" was a vocal master class that showed the current contestants how it's done. Btw, proceeds from his "Aftermath" re-mix are being donated to the The Trevor Project. Adam rocks!

I feel America and I are off to a good start. The right bottom 3 and the right person went home. Ashton's performance Thursday was not endearing. It was as off as Wednesday. Lauren would have been so much more interesting.

The bad news is Casey is back in the hospital again. Second time and certainly is this season's Crystal. Let's hope he gets healthy because that would be a blow for the show and America. This is a very talented 19 yo man.

Let's hope the performances across the board for women move it up a bit and get some great competition. Women were a major snooze this week.

But I did like the left turn and only going through 1/2 the contestants to get the bottom 3. I loved that. I still wish the results show was only a 1/2 hour long.

How about Simon finally admitting he was bored and it was time for him to move on?

Show is better than last two seasons but not as good as four or five seasons ago except for the season Taylor boring Hicks won, an Elloit/Daughtry finale would have been so much more interesting. Well I dont think Chris is crying too much over that now.

I can appreciate some rap but I just don't get Diddy (P. Diddy? Diddy-Dirt Money? Sean Combs? etc). The song he performed on Idol last week sounded like it was written by a 5 year old. He looks like he's storing acorns in his cheeks for winter. Yet, his net worth is reported to be about $450 mil. Where or what is his talent?

I wasn't too surprised to see Ashton go. I would had been fine with any of those 3 girls going. I'm a bit confused with Thea (?) though. She sang "Smile". I really don't see how she ever made it as far as she did. I just don't see her in the same league as the others.

My favorites so far are James, Pia, and Scotty. However, I also think Stefano is good. He isn't as good as the ones I like the most, but who cares. He is a hottie!!!!

I need to make a statement about myself, I am probably biased against country singers because it is my least favorite style of music. I will also say I was and still am a Carrie Underwood fan, the woman can flat sing and for a woman is damn hot doing it.
