Asperger's Syndrome

Six months ago, I was convinced I was the only gay man in America who was married. Well that got quickly disabused by this forum. And I didn't feel so lonely

 

Four months ago, I was convinced I was the only guy here who had a son with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism. In talking with another forum member a few months ago, we found out we both had sons with Asperger's. And I felt less lonely.

 

And today another forum member came to me and told me he also had an Asperger's son. And I feel even less isolated.

 

And so I was wondering, with 3 of us I know of with Asperger's or kids on the Autism spectrum, are there other forum members dealing with the issue as well? As someone who has dealt with that issue for many years, I know having someone else to talk about the struggles of having an AS kid is enormously helpful. If there are other forum members in a similar situation, I'd be interested to know. If you want to PM me instead of answering, that would be great too. But if you have an AS or kid on the spectrum, know that you aren't alone, even here on an a gay escort board.

There's a beautiful film from 2009 called "Adam" starring Hugh Dancy as a young man with AS. I'm glad you don't feel so alone anymore.

Thanks playwrestler. Of course an inspiration for those of us dealing with AS is the HBO movie and the real person as well of Temple Grandin. What a simply amazing woman that is.

As a kid, I was hopeless naive, shy and socially inept ... (hmmm. maybe I don't need to say ``As a kid''), but I had a housemate

with Asperger's and saw that my challenges where quite small compared to his.
