I love food. My hobby is going to new places and try new dishes. I usually go to city markets and try many finger foods. While I was in Seoul this winter, I had opportunities to try many nice budget traditional foods. One of them was hand made dumplings at a restaurant called Ja-Ha-Seon-Man-Du. http://mini-files.thinkpool.com/files/mini/2008/02/09/IMG_0591.jpg

The restaurant is located in a walking distance from the Blue House (the executive office and official residence of the South Korean head of state, the President of the Republic of Korea). It is not hard to find if you walk toward the Ja-ha-Moon gate from the Blue House. Dumplings here are very good. You can get a warm dumpling soup or steamed dumplings for less than 10 dollars with tax and gratuity included. It is very busy during the lunch time so it's better to make reservations. I got Man-Du-Guk which is made by boiling mandu (dumplings) in a beef broth.

The soup is garnished with a little bit of stir-fried beef. It wasn't spicy at all as you can see from the color of the soup in the picture above. You can also try crisp korean mung bean pancakes made with a mung bean flour batter there. It just melts in your mouth.

One thing I like about all the restaurants in Korea is that everything is included in the menu price unless you eat at a high end restaurant. VAT is added in that case but you still don't have to tip. If you go to a Sushi restaurant in Seoul you might be disappointed with the quantity. The portion is much smaller and very expensive.
