I only watched the first hour of the Golden Globes, and these are my two favorite moments.

Ricky Gervais' opening monologue included a few good jabs, but my favorite is at 3:10 in this video:

And Chris Colfer's (Kurt from Glee) acceptance speech for best supporting actor:

One of the weirdest moments had to be the introduction of Robert Downey, Jr. By Ricky Gervais. Referencing his prison stay and visit to Betty Ford and RDJ's response mentioning sexual congress with all the best actress - comedy/musical nominees? I love low/dirty humor, but even I thought it was too much.

Help me find it.

Anyone have a clue where I can get the fabric in Gaby Sidibe's dress. The material could be fabricated into fabulous drapes for one of my guest bedrooms.

Well I turned off the program -- found it less unnerving to just check on in-line and see who "won" these overly-hyped meaningless awards that have little to do with the actors' craft or skills or even abilities. The nominations were very odd to say the least, and I am of the school that feel the awards reflect who the hosts would have on their "wish list" to be friends with.

Absolutely hated Ricky Gervais - found his humor crude to the point of irritating. Another reason I turned it off early. Now on Monday morning, reading excerpts of the really low and in bad taste remarks flung around at this ceremony last evening, one wonders how much lower our culture can sink to revel in this.

Whew... must be that I am no longer a Sagittarius but now... a... grumpy Ophiuchus or whatever it is????

I watched only a few sections of the broadcast and found Gervais to be fantastic at skewering the pompous, self-absorbed, Hollywood elites. He’s British for heaven’s sake, and they are the best at irreverent satire. Plus, Gervais hosted last year and so the Hollywood Foreign Press Association knew what they were getting when they hired him again this year. So what if he pissed some people off? Though I’m pretty sure he’ll have some folks out to get him for a while.

Please, someone make me laugh!

Which is why I don't understand the post awards uproar and the calls to terminate Gervais. I never thought it was in the best interest of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to take itself too seriously. After all, they gave Pia Zadora a Globe and they nominated The Tourist this year as Best Comedy/Best Musical, which is equally laughable because the movie is neither. (Plus, the film was dreadful.)

I understand the Golden Globes are a good pump for the international movie business but the Globes will never be the Oscar's. If you're going to serve alcohol at the affair, it's best to lighten up and be prepared to take a joke.

I thought Ricky Gervais was absolutely outrageous, and that's the only reason I decided to watch the big bore to the bitter end. There's no one left in Hollywood who dares to cut it close to the edge. It's too bad we have to import brave (and really funny) humor from Britain. Safe entertainment is the dullest entertainment of all.

ps Will Bob DiNiro and Christian Bale be boycotted, too? They weren't even trying to be funny as they openly mocked the HFPA.
