Teena Marie dead at age 54

Just saw this on The Huffington Post and was shocked. I loved Teena and thought she was one of our greatest R and B talents of the past 20 years. She wrote and produced so much of her own material. So many in the entertainment industry have been lost to us this year.

Rest in Peace Teena and thanks for the music.

I was still a kid when her music was the rage in the dance clubs, but this chick is a major reason why I'm hooked on old skool R&B. Fell in love with her the first time I heard 'Portuguese Love' on the radio. Love her songs and still listen to them all the time. All these hip hop singers nowadays who're rapping and think they're so original have nothing on her because she was rapping on tracks like 'Square Biz' years before. Saw her in concert several years ago when she was trying for a comeback, and she still had it. Looked and sounded just as good as ever. Very few R&B singers could work a power ballad the way she did. She'd been struggling with drugs for a while and I'm hoping that's not what caused this. Great career. Awesome love songs.
