Last night at Christie's in New York, a painting by Pablo Picasso from 1932 sold for $106.5 million, an auction record. "Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust" is a double portrait of Picasso's model, Marie-Therese Walters. The painting was completed in one day.

There are good articles in the LA Times and the NY Times about the painting and the sale.

One of my other favorite paintings of Marie-Therese is "Girl Reading" in the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena. It is part of a large series of paintings by Picasso featuring a woman reading. The four versions of "Marie Therese in a Red Armchair" are part of this.
