The Texas Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys from 1971 to 2009, was demolished this morning in a series of controlled explosions. See video of the implosion here: http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/031810-Texas-Stadium-Implosion

I watched it live with my teen-agers (twins) this morning. They both grew up loving the Cowboys and we enjoyed many games and concerts there over the years that I lived in Dallas (my kids still live there). The stadium was out-dated, delapidated and in a state of disrepair--it needed to be demolished. So, why am I so sad? We made lots of great memories there--in the past chapter of my life (before coming out and moving to Chicago).

Oh yeah "Greatness," my twins are the reasons I fly back to Dallas at least a couple weekends every month. Being a dad truly is the best part of my life, but it sure ain't easy! I've always had a terrific relationship with both kids and they are totally cool with me being gay. But, they are definitely a hand-full right now at this age....It's not always fun dealing with all their "normal" teen-age emotions and raging hormones. Ughhh.:( Gotta love teen-agers! I would never want to be 16 years-old again...even though I wore a smaller jeans size back then!

My Wallet Weeps...

I lived in Seattle ten years ago when the King Dome was imploded. Leaving the coolness factor aside, it is infuriating that politicians have such little regard for our money that they have to build new stadiums and then blow them up after 25-30 yrs, replacing them with exponentially more expensive stadiums. Taxpayers ultimately pay a major chunk of the construction cost of these mammoth stadiums and then have to turn around and pay extremely high ticket prices to attend events at the venues they helped build! My wallet weeps.
