has anyone on the board used this alternative to braces & what did you think of it? This afternoon I spent a total of 3 hrs in the dentist chair finising up on a cap that popped off & decided to give these a try & got fitted for them. I had braces when I was younger & hated them. They always hurt & just as I was getting used to them it was time to get another tightening. Thanks for any info you can share.

oh my

Are we going to see your new updated sexy smile soon? I hate going to dentist. I don't know anything about alternative braces since I never had one. But make sure whether it is really necessary. Some doctors can't be trusted. Anyways hope to see your sexy cute smile soon~~ :)

Be sure you see a qualified ORTHODONTIST

Invisalign is a wonderful system for orthodontic care, but be sure you are working with a qualified orthodontist, and not just a dentist that uses invisalign. Invisalign is not for everyone and only an orthodontist has the additional training (3 years beyond dental school) and skills to help you make that decision. A lot of dentists use invisalign because they think it is easy, but like so many things in life, all is not apparent. I suggest you go on the website for the American Association of Orthodontists and find an orthodontist in your area to get a second opinion if you have already started with your general dentist.

Ditto! See an orthodontist!

Hopefully it will be determined that you are a good candidate for such a procedure… and that can only be determined by your dental professional. I would assume that the impressions taken (your term being “got fitted”) were for such diagnostic purposes so the best type of treatment could be determined… and at times the best approach is the traditional method. Still, if your case is relatively simple Invisalign might be the best treatment modality. Personally I would see an orthodontist as opposed to a general dentist who simply has taken a course in Invisalign.

Remember that “Invisalign retainers” (aligners) are removable. Consequently, it is the patient’s responsibility to be totally compliant with wearing the aligners. Teeth can shift quite unexpectedly at times and failure to be compliant can cause an unnecessary interruption in treatment. Additionally, it is important to remember that changing aligners is analogous to the tightening of a traditional orthodontic appliance. Therefore, no matter what makes the teeth move, when the requisite forces are applied pressure and possible sensitivity can be experienced.

In your specific case and given your occupation there is the advantage that with Invisalign unsightly wires can be avoided.... not to mention “other” disadvantages that traditional braces can cause… and read between the lines on that one. Still, while mostly invisible, you need to determine if you will be totally comfortable working with them in place… and especially remembering that they should only be removed for only very short periods of time. .

Unfort this is something that needs to be done since my bite is waaaaay off & I think might have contributed to my crown popping off.
If your "bite is waaaaay off" and your crown popped off from grinding your teeth (or possibly other factors), that perhaps could be a contraindication for Invisalign...Remember if you are a "grinder" you might just fracture the aligners and you will be back to square one. Also, if your bite is "waaaaay off" a traditional approach might be best in the long run. Bottom line: a complete diagnosis needs to be made possibly in conjunction with an orthodontist and your general dentist prior to beginning treatment. One stop shopping might be nice... and it may indeed work in your case... but you owe it to yourself to get the best advice for your needs. You don't want to have the work done by a dentist who has simply taken a two day course in Invigalign and has little experience. Remember many orthodontists provide both traditional and Invisalign type services. If you want to investigate the Invisalign route you owe it to yourself to research all your possibilities... and then you can make a decision based on hard facts including the dentist's experience, the number of cases they have done, cost, etc. At any rate, good luck enhancing your smile.

I make dental crowns and bridges and if fitted and cemented properly they do not pop off.If you're grinding your teeth in your sleep that may make the porcelain chip but the crown still should not pop off.I have crowns in my mouth for many years and they have never loosened.

Please see an orthodontist before starting treatment which can be very expensive and get a second opinion. One way of finding a quality orthodontist would be to call an orthodontic dental laboratory and ask them for a good doctor.

I get calls all the time from patients looking for a good dentist to do restorative work and no one knows a dentist's quality better than his lab.

I work for 20 dentists and out of the 20 there are only 6 that I would go to and out of the 6 I would only go to 2 in an extreme emergency.

They Work

Had them about 6 years ago. Took three years but they worked beautifully. Went to an truly great orthodontist who was hot as hell by the way. But the system IS NOT CHEAP. I use the retainer about 2-3 times a week but it makes me snore. I more client a week for a year - with holidays and vacation - should pay for them!

I'll check into an orthodontist. I honestly don't like the idea of braces as I've had them before and didn't like being restricted on what I was able to eat and when I was up in Canada for a weekend eating a burger and my wire popped. I like the idea of the invisalign and being able to pop it out and eating what I normally eat. Plus some guys are not comfortable when it comes to oral when the one doing it is wearing braces. As for cost I have good dental insurance (although that can change by this summer) so i figure take advantage of any major work that I might need or want done while the gettins good.

Greg,

Its interesting that you remember your braces hurting all the time. I remember my mouth being sore when they changed an arch wire for a day or two, but after that my mouth went back to no pain.

I would be careful about dental insurance. Most does not cover orthodontic work except for children or unless there is a truly serious "ortho" reason (severe deformity and ability to speak/eat) for braces in an adult. Your insurance could provide a real quick answer.

I have good dental insurance& we've already checked to see if they will cover it which they do. I of coure have to cover part of it but it's such a small fee it doesn't bother me.

Wow! That is really exceptional insurance coverage... as Poolboy21409 knows from whence he speaks.

Well, and more power to you... but you probably clear more per hour as a working guy than any orthodontist... so if it turns out to be the best treatment modality... go for it!

Highly recommended!

I have had Invisaligns for 5 months now and honestly with a total of 1 years correction, I couldn't be happier with this process and have found it to be painless and very easy - HIGHLY recommended! If you visit the website or contact their customer support, they will locate a certified orthodontist that has been certified to practice their system as most regular dentists are not equipped to perform the overall process. I had braces for 3 years from age 13 to 16 and it was horrible and in fact left small scars in my mouth from when the wires would break and poke the inside of my cheeks. Then, when you complete the process, your last tray becomes your night time retainer to maintain the format of your teeth placement. If you don't use a retainer after such a process, your teeth will begin to move out of their perfect placement within months, essentially erasing the investment that you have made. Also, Invisalign offers a financing option that is interest free for one year if you continue to make your payments on time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email or private message me and I will be happy to discuss further with you as I think you would really enjoy it and find it to be painless not to mention no one has noticed that I wear them 22 hours per day (recommended and only removed to eat and clean tray system) nor has it interfered with escorting in any way. :)

I can concur with Romann's appearance. I met him before the Invisiligns and after and then this past week, three months since the last time and the change is amazing plus he went with the whiteners and his teeth are great. He has been encouranging me to investigate it because of his success. My lower teeth moved out of alignment after I had braces while my wisdom teeth began coming in while in college. I have a tooth I am probably going to have to replace with a crown in my lowers later this year and I will do that first than look at the idea.
