Wish that a small family owned shop could have made the list... Been here for 10 years now...

Not sure how 10 to 5 years ago my ex was truly viewed.... we were at the time of being "long term roomies" - sort of how we both wanted it played for both of our jobs...

For me it was only after our breakup of 12+ years that I found out my fellow associates and friends truly knew what was going on between us....

They opened up to me about the pain I was feeling about the breakup... but they admited they they knew in the end that I was in a Gay relationship... and did everything to help me through that point in life...

Some may find offense that they may look at me at the "token Gay guy"... but they have my back really....

Even to day after about 5 years since the "split" they are trying to "hook me up" with some customers that come in to the store... :)

Maybe it is me... but I have some great times with the folks I work with... I have been able to laugh with them - after they knew the truth about me. And I joked back with them....

The last few years would have not been possible without them....

No matter how much I tried to hide the pain....

I work for a larger business - we have about 450 employees - but I consider many of them as close as family. They all know about me and no one seems to care. Best of all, my boss totally has my back.

You still seem to be in pain over the break up and I'm sorry that you do. It's really nice to know that people are rooting for you. Dating is definitely harder as we get older, but still worth the effort.

Easier said than done

My company is on that list and probably has been on it for several years, however, regardless of the diversity training that we all are required to take each year, I know for me and many others somethings are just best not being brought up. I am a field employee and have very limited interactions with other co-workers and have actually never been to our corporate headquarters, but that is not why I am private about these issues. I choose to keep my sexuality private not because of problems with my employer, but because of the problems it could create with local customers that I depend on for my livelyhood. I am glad to know that my manager could not disolve me because of my sexuality, but that company guarenteed protection provides very little protection with external customers that I must depend on.
