The thread on Johnny Weir reminded me to check out the schedule. The 2010 U.S. National Championships in figure skating start today in Spokane and go for ten days. NBC is broadcasting 13 hours of skating. The U.S. Figure Skating Asso. has a nice website

which has the schedule of all events and also the schedule of broadcasts. If you go to the individual pages of skaters, they have lists of hundreds of videos of all the programs these skaters have done and interviews with them, all on icenetwork. They are all free if you register on site, which is free. And the ones I watched did not have commentary by Dick Button, which is a big plus.

Thanks for providing the link to this article. It's well worth reading.

As an addendum, I saw Johnny Weir in a televised skating event earlier this season. He has really changed. Some of you will remember the long thread on Johnny's shopping sprees in the last olympics. He now appears much more focused and determined. He has definitely matured. I wish him the best in making the olympic team. The olympics will take place in February in Vancouver.

This is a great site for all kinds of information. However, the TV schedule is not quite accurate. NBC showed only a few very short clips from the Mens short program. You need access to Universal to see the Mens and Ladies short programs. Most of the time was allocated for the Pairs long program. The same thing has happened before, where the short programs were not aired by the broadcast network.

The following site provides a more accurate, frequently updated TV schedule of major figure skating events.

The broadcast networks have greatly reduced their coverage of major figure skating events in past years. This has been a big issue for those who like to watch figure skating.

Ryan Bradley

It was a very exciting and good final for the Men's Skating. Jeremy Abbott skated a flawless performance, which is a very rare occurence. It was also very good. Ryan Bradley skated one of the most extraordinary performances ever, both technically very difficult and also great fun to watch. It is unfortunate that he will not be in the Olympics. For me, Evan Lysacek was not very impressive nor a pleasure to watch. He looked like a great magpie with arms flailing for no purpose the entire program. Johnny Weir did better than usual. But it was Ryan who was most enjoyable and impressive to watch. Great pity that he did not achieve more points in the short program.
