Hudson

I really like the Hudson Hotel. Sleek, discreet.

Discreet to a fault. You have to walk by 17 times before you find the friggin front door. And the rooms are tiny.

All Morgans hotels (ex-Ian Schrager) are distinctive by their "discretion" and that's on purpose. It was some kind of a "new" (at the time they created it) concept. There is no hotel sign/logo outside the hotel and even no street number (on purpose). It's kind of a "private club". You have to know where you're going ...

Night Hotel NYC

Hey Man, I totally recommend this new, upscale, yet non-traditional boutique hotel located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Just stayed there last month for the first time and loved it! It has a provocative, erotic vibe throughout, from the lobby to staff to the rooms.

When I go to NY I work out at Mid City Gym, the 49th street location.

Yep. I was gonna recommend Mid City Gym, but Jason beat me to it. Unstuffy, Good Visitor Rate (by NY standards), great equipment, great proximity to mid-cities hotels, friendly staff.:)

You might want to check website for The Maritime Hotel, which is at corner of 9th Ave and 16th. Kind of retro look, and IMO, great area. At times rooms are fairly pricey but at times they a pretty good deal.

I've also had pretty good luck getting a deal at some hotel or another by checking out quikbook.com
