So You Think You Can Dance

Anyone here watch the finale tonight? Usually when they stretch something out to 2 hours it gets boring but I thought tonite's show was thoroughly entertaining.

 

But the winner IMO was a big disappointment. I think Brandon should have won. He was the best dancer, hands down.

I have watched SYTD since season 2. I thought first unlike IDOL, same producers, the participants in the top 10 were all great and these people work their butts off and the guys are all great looking. I thought the top 8 anyone of them could have been in the finale. I was disappointed when Janette left, because she had never had one bad dance and her Brandon as a couple were probably the stongest pairing the show has ever had.

 

This show is the hardest to call with 4 people in the finale the spread of votes will make the call. I thought the right two in the final vote. I like Evan but I would have rather had Jason in the finale. How do you compare a guy and gal for dance. I thought Jeanine's dancing on Wed was just a hair better than Brandon. Her gradually slowing pirouttes to pace of the music in her solo were awesome and so very difficult. Brandon is awesome physical specimen and really never made a bad step.

 

I thought the judging was very fair and I like how they bring in a guest judge each week and most of them have worked with participants as a choreagrapher on the show. The dancing in the finale was excellent. A well run show with lots of skin.

I think the voting public should really judge them by the totality of the dancing they have done during the show, not by just one solo dance on the final night. I guess I always forget that the public is being asked to vote for America's FAVORITE dancer, not America's BEST dancer.

 

I'm shocked that so few of our members admit to tuning into this guilty pleasure. And here I thought we were a bunch of homosexuals who liked seeing tight male buns flashed before our eyes.......

I also am a fan of the show. However, there are two changes that I would like to see in the future.

 

First, I think the judges should limit their comments to the dancing itself. They have, from time to time, commented on costuming and choice of music. Although I don't know for sure how these decisions are made, I would be highly surprised to find that the contestants have that much input. And in my opinion, negative comments from the judges could unfairly sway how the public may vote.

 

And secondly, when they get down to the final four or six, they should have the couples perform the same dance. The bottom line for me is that sometimes the choreography is truly what shines. Great choreography can inspire a dancer. And this can give those dancers an advantage. I have often watched the show with a friend who does some choreography and we both have noticed that the dancers tend to get more positive reviews when the judges also have rave reviews for the choreographer. On a couple of occasions we have joked that the show's title should be "So You Think You Can Choreograph".

 

And on a side note ... on this season, Jason was HOT HOT HOT!

I love this show so much I TiVo it and keep it so I can watch it over and over again. I have some of my favorite dances through out, "The Bench" from Mia Michael were just amazing. My favorite from this season is definitely the one by Travis who dance "The Bench" previously. I am glad Paula will get to judge on this show, cause finally she will be talking about something she is actually good at. And I totally agree with the choreagrapher totally control the show, but I think they did certain dance to fit the dancers so they can shine. I don't think doing the same dance will be a solution, seems that will make the show a bit dull. And I agree that Nigel likes to comment on the outfit a lot and also how he doesn't like certain music, which is totally stupid consider he is the one who pretty much control every aspect of the show, I am sure he can get the wardrob people do whatever he wants.
