The spectacular new Guthrie theater in Minneapolis currently presents a theater-wide celebration honoring Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner (you may remember him as the author of "Angels in America"). The celebration is featuring three productions on three unique stages, including the Tony-nominated musical "Caroline, or Change", the world premiere of "The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures", and an extraordinary line up of five rarely seen works in "Tiny Kushner: An Evening of Short Plays".

I saw "The Intelligent Homosexual" this weekend. It's a extraordinary play, very witty, fucking hilarious and deep at the same time with some poignant truths about life, suicide and death, about the social disparities and the current crisis in our modern society all mixed up with some real-life drama. I loved the introduction of the escort/hustler personage in the play and his interaction with the other actors. I also loved the act of the father (Gus), who is also the writer of the play. The simultaneous dialogues between several actors on different parts of the stage is a new concept I haven't seen before. I loved it all ! Highly recommended. You can enjoy it at the Guthrie theater in Minneapolis thru June 27th or when it hits Broadway next season 2009 - 2010.

Hats off, Kushner !
