Becoming Chaz

Chastity Bono has made the courageous decision to transition from female to male. Given her, now HIS stature in the spotlight and celebrity, this can't have been an easy decision and one which will probably come with all kinds of ridicule and scrutiny from the media.

 

I don't imagine anyone who comes to this decision or conclusion does so easily nor without much soul searching. I can only imagine what that decision process must be like. One I would imagine that is made even more difficult when your life is hardly one that is private nor lived out of the glare of the spotlight as Chaz has had to live much of his life over the years. Granted some of that spotlight was sought out, but a good bit of it came with the territory and being part of an uber famous family.

He's brave! Not many have the support system that he has. I personally have a lot of admiration and love for transgendered folk. From some that I've talked to about this they do not feel they have the full support of the GLBT groups even though they are under the umbrella of equal rights fights. The trans folk I know are some of the most kick ass folk and bravest.

Does it really matter? I think we'd all love for our parents to be supportive of what we do in our lives. But sometimes they don't approve or support and at the end of the day each of us needs to do what we feel is right and will make us happy and hopefully better people at the end of the day. If we get our parents support and love great but we are adults and must do what is right for ourselves.
