Some recent studies suggest that as many as half of recent HIV infections in California are attributed to meth use.

The Stonewall Project is the SFAF's harm reduction program for gay men who have questions about speed, or want help dealing with their meth use.

"Gay and bisexual men who use meth are at high risk of contracting HIV and other STDs," explained Michael Siever, the Foundation's director of behavioral health services and Stonewall's founder. Providing health facts, emotional support, peer-counseling and social networking, Stonewall helps clients identify and address risky behaviors that can lead to HIV transmission.

Stonewall is also the home of tweaker.org, a website which educates people about crystal meth and its effects on physical, mental, sexual and social health. Unique because of its hip, frank discussion of meth, HIV, STDs and sex, and its no-holds-barred personal forum, tweaker.org attracts more than 2,000 visitors from all over the world every day.

In 2007 tweaker.org Español was created to better serve Latino men. As Michael Siever explained, "Latino gay and bisexual men often face language and culture barriers in addition to greater stigma associated with both being gay and doing drugs. Tweaker.org Español will finally give them a home where they'll find accurate information. There's nothing else like it anywhere."
