Something must be up as MS very quietly released IE 8.0 Thursday. In the past all their browser releases have come with much fanfare. Granted IE is still number one when it comes to browsers however this soft release seems out of character for MS.

If you want to check out the new browser or download it you can do so here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx

I currently use Firefox 3.0 which I find a bit buggy. IE 7.0 is terrible and Chrome, Opera or Safari just don't seem to work well on MS OS (I'm using Vista).

Just wondering what browser others here are using and what you like about it?

I alternate between Firefox 3.0 and IE 7, both a bit buggy on Vista. But both seem to work well on XP at work. I downloaded the beta version of IE 8 a few weeks ago and find that it is a lot less buggy on Vista. (I hate VISTA).

Microsoft said page load times had been speeded up in IE8 and the new version of the browser blocks "two to four times as many malicious sites as other browsers on the market today."

You'd think they'd want folks to know about that so, as you say, the lack of publicity is notable. Maybe they're waiting to see if any bugs crawl out. And perhaps they still feel skittish around the Department of Justice and the European Commission. Don't need any more monopoly talk.

IE8 also has a new Private Mode, which competitors like Google are referring to as 'Porn Mode'. It keeps your cleaning lady from checking out which sites you've been to, although the police can find out if they need to. It also gives you control of what third party sites are able to see as you move around the web. Google is mighty steamed because they're taking crap for collecting too much information about people and maybe neither company wants a public pissing match over consumer privacy rights.

So there seem to be some good reasons for telling people what it can do, but maybe some better ones for keeping mum.

Don't want Mum to find out that Skippy is going to start covering his tracks!

Bump

Any additional feedback on IE 8.0??? Thanks.

I am running XP Professional on both of my laptops and for some reason... and I am not sure if it is the way the wind was blowing or the way the planets were aligned... but IE 7.0 was very buggy over the weekend. However, I don't want to make things worse by getting involved with 8.0 if it might be even more buggy.

I haven't loaded on my XP Professional desk top at work yet. There was an article on Yahoo a few days ago that said Microsoft was have problems with IE 8.0, which might explain the lack of fanfare.

I can say that I've been using it for several weeks now on my laptop running Vista Ultimate and it works great. Whereas, IE 7.0 would constanly lock up on any page running Flash or Java, IE 8.0 works like dream. My browser hasn't crashed since.

As a side note, I downloaded the latest version of Firefox on my laptop and its very buggy on Vista Ultimate.
