It's no secret the the Survivor producers spend massive amounts of time with prospective "survivors" in interviews, psychological assessments, and so forth, and that they pick specific personalities to make the show interesting. It seems strange to me that all the black men in the Survivor shows so far seem to be lazy and/or thieves. I can't remember the 2nd show right now, but I do recall that the black guys in the 1st and 4th shows were lazy as hell, and that the guy in the 3rd show stole food and lied about it later. I can't believe that the shows' producers couldn't see these character traits when they picked these guys. Also, the openly gay guys have all come off as "slimy" people. Am I being too harsh, or have others thought that this show promotes stereotypes?

No, it's not.

MANY other people on all the shows have been lazy.

They thought Kal had sneaked in beef jerky and was keeping it from the others - he wasn't black.

Sean, the black guy, isn't so much "lazy" as pissed off that he wasn't the big cheese. Hunter grabbed the "alpha male" slot from Sean and Rob and his reaction has been to essentially sulk (which is being confused with laziness) and bitch and moan about it.

I think it would be more accurate to say that Sean has a chip on his shoulder.

Sarah, the one with the bolt-ons, IS lazy and she's white.

The black girl, Vecepia, isn't lazy.

Clarence didn't "steal" the beans. He was thoughtless about them. He did, however, take more than one cherry. However, the producers would have to have been prescient to know he would do that. I would remind you that Clarence could have won the immunity challenge with the water bucket above his head but he gave it to the other woman, and he ended up being voted out that evening.

I don't think for a moment that the producers are trying to promote stereotypes. If anything, the show proves that blacks can behave just like us white folks.

As for the gay part........Richard Hatch was just as conniving as the rest of them, he just happened to win. Jeff, in Australia, was more "mean" than anything else. Brandon in Africa wasn't very bright. And the two homos in Marquesas have yet to show what they're like.

The bottom line is, if you're looking to see a pattern you can find one in anything you look at if you look hard enough.

However, sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar.

And IMHO, they're all cigars.

Helpfully yours,

They’ve certainly gone out of their way to present a decent spectrum of gay men. Okay, white gay men, but they probably think it would be hard to compete with a double-whammy of being gay and non-white. The personality types they’ve chosen have been pretty diverse.

I don’t know why they would target black men for a negative stereotype, but I do agree that they haven’t been presented in the best light.

I’m sure it’s no accident that both black cast members are on the same team, and that only seems fair after last season. I would actually be interested to see what would happen if they had a team with four or five black members – or gays for that matter. Would they automatically form a block and oust the “minority” players? Would the dynamics be dramatically different? I think they would be.

Who’s the second mo? There is John of course, but I can’t think of another one. Must be one of the women whom I have paid little attention to. (In the misogynistic super-fag way that I generally do.)

I missed some of the shows....who are the two homos on the present show?

It has been speculated that Gabriel is also a cocksucker. We shall soon find out.

Where has it been speculated that Gabriel is a cocksucker? I'd sure like to find out too, he's really hot. He did play an extra role in Six feet under as a gay guy making out with the dance instructor in a club that one of the guys was going out with. But does anyone know anything for sure about Gabriel's orientation? It allows a guy to keep on dreaming about this dreamy hot sexy beautiful guy!!

The pertinent paragraph reads: So who's gay? We've had an openly gay male on 2 of the 3 seasons so I expect S4 to be no different. The leading candidates are Gabriel and John. One brought a teddy bear, the other brought massage oils. One was a figure skater, the other was a nurse. One was in theatre, the other taught ballroom dancing. John was my early favorite, but with his ballet, French, and Hollywood residence, Gabe Cade is my pick to wave the rainbow flag.

Kinda makes ya go "hmmm", doesn't it?

Each week the guy does a summary of the show and it's VERY funny.

Informatively yours,

Did anyone catch last night's episode when Rob made the remark about John's being "queer" and in no way would he sleep next to him?

Any sympathy I may have had for Rob quickly went out the window after last night and can't wait for him and Sean to be kicked out. They both are creeps. While others mentioned this in previous postings, last night cinched it for me.
