I don't think this message violates the rules of the board, but if it does I apologize in advance.

There is a campaign going on to raise funds for a Thai barboy, Somporn, who desperately needs a kidney transplant. He had returned to his home village to die when friends intervened and began this campaign which got him onto dialysis (each treatment costs about $60 American). The website http://www.thais4life.com/ sets forth the details of the situation and provides a method for making contributions. At present the campaign has been limited to the two main gay Thailand message boards - http://www.pattayagay.com and http://www.gaybutton.com - but I thought I would take a shot at expanding the pool of potential donors.

The cost of the procedure (medical expenses for Somporn and his donor, probably one of his brothers) will probably run around $6000 or $7000. In the USA the equivalent procedure would run well into the six figures. Progress is slowly being made toward meeting this goal, but additional help would be very welcome and could speed up the process. If the drive is successful and excess funds are collected, the fund will eventually evolve into one to assist other Thai with HIV/AIDS (not covered by any Thai medical insurance companies) and other severe medical problems. Again, there is a great deal more information at http://www.thais4life.com/. It is natural to be a bit suspicious of this campaign but if you take the time to read the website I think you will be convinced as I was that it's for real.

There are many on this board who spend $200+ for an hour with an escort, myself included. I hope a few of you will at least consider a small contribution to this fund as well. The donations are collected as Australian dollars, but are converted to US dollars on your credit card statement ($50 Australian convert to around $26 American dollars). Sometimes we give to charity and wonder if our money actually gets to those we are trying to help. This is a situation where a few dollars will go a long way and could hopefully save a young man's life.

I apologize for intruding with so somber a message and appreciate the indulgence of the board members. Kop khun krap.
