Hey guys,

I just watched the controversial show, 9/11. I anticipated a different show. But it was a real tribute to how God always has the last word, good triumphs over evil. I am not an overly religious person, yet, my family background must have shone through. The stroies of the firemen was so inspirational, I was teary eyed through much of it.

At first, I was filled with a desire to be intimate with every single one of those heroes. Then, I realized I just wanted each of them to be my friend. How much better a person i would be just by knowing them.

Yes, nothing more would make me happy than to know heroes of 9/11. Nothing more would make happier than knowing everyday american heroes who are everywhere. And..... I really wish I could count those two frenchman, Jules and Gideon Naudet as my friends, my life would be so much more meaningful knowing men who had lived what they lived....imagine how they could transform our lives .... we fret over the most insignifigant things!

What were your reactions,

your friend,

sincerely

Happyguy, I'm with you. First, it was hard to believe that the film was a sort of accident. It was so beautifully made, so well edited, and the on-screen candor of the firefighters themselves so convincing that I could have believed that they were actors. (In fact, they were just as, if not more, credible as the real-life actors on THE LARAMIE PROJECT shown on HBO the night before.) But if those two French brothers hadn't been making a documentary well in advance of 9/11, there wouldn't have been all that background footage shot in the months before. It made the scenes towards the end all the more moving, when the firefighters came back, one by one, late in the afternoon on 9/11.

It was "male bonding" at its very, very finest. The real thing, and full of deep, physical affection. Not only was the film the best thing, hands down, about 9/11 I have seen, to me the genius of it is that it transcended the horror by concentrating on the love that those men have for each other, and on their perfectly genuine (as far as I could tell) nobility and altruism. I don't really know what a "hero" is. But if I were looking for one, I'd start at that firehouse.

I regret that I didn't tape it. Surely, it's right up there with the very finest tv documentaries I've ever seen. It was a triumph for CBS.

Thanks so much for your words, it is so nice to know that someone else experienced the same thing. By the way, I am sorry that it appears I tried to post another 9/11 thread, I did not, when I posted, the first one had not yet appeared, so I thought I was the first. But, I hope others were similarly moved. Just as 9/11 changed our lives forever, in a different, more subtle way, this documentary certainly is etched deep in our beings as well.

all the best to everyone,

happy
