Deej - Dan,

What is the answer? To let it remain easy for terrorists to blow up planes? I dont think they will bother with planes any time soon, the potential exists. In the US we have had it easy...and lucky until 9-11. If we ease up the security, terrorists will be well aware.

Any way you look at it, we are fucked. Either long security checks, searches, and x-rays that often are not that effective, or more data collection-privacy violations.

People complain about the lines at the airport, physical searches, or privacy rights issues about data/profiles, but think we all can agree we don't want our plane to blow up.

Sorry to hear you are frequently subject to intensive searchs.

Perhaps something else tips them off. While flowing robes and a turban are smart fashion choices, also comfortable travel gear, it causes bit too much scrutiny at the security checkpoints.

Here's an article about two recent incidents that appeared in my local paper today. The link doesn't appear to work, so I've posted the entire article. The link is at the bottom of my post.

Man Arrested at LAX With Explosive

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An inactive Army National Guardsman was arrested early Monday after trying to pass a nonfunctioning military explosive through security at Los Angeles International Airport, police said.

A screener became concerned after noticing the device, which resembled an M-80 firecracker, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Greg Glodery.

A Federal Aviation Administration official said the device was found in the man's carryon luggage.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested at about 6:10 a.m. for investigation of possessing an explosive device. A bomb squad later determined the device was inert, police said.

No evacuations were ordered at Terminal 6, where the item was discovered, Glodery said. The terminal serves Continental Airlines and portions of United Airlines fleet.

The screening station where the item was noticed in an X-ray machine was temporarily shut down, Glodery said. No flights were delayed, officials said.

In an unrelated incident at New York's La Guardia Airport, a flight that had left for Cleveland was forced to return after it was discovered a passenger was not properly screened. A concourse was evacuated and everyone was screened again.

>Well I agree the escort should pay for the ticket himself.

>Its in the best interest of the escort to do so.

Well, of course it's in the escort's best interest to do so. Nevertheless, there have been many strings about how unwise it is to pay an escort in advance. More than one client has written to lament his decision to do so.

Aside from it being unwise to send the escort money for the plane ticket without some sort of assurances, it's impossible to do so anyways. Plane fares change by the minute, not by the week or month. You may know the fare on XYZ airline now, but by the time the escort received the check, the fare would almost assuredly be very different.

I find the fare changes so amusing, I sometimes try to buy a ticket a second time right after my purchase. I've had the situation where the ticket I bought was the last available at whatever discount fare (say a "U" or "L" fare) I obtained. In one case, the fare increased immediately by a factor of three. I have a fare-watcher service with Travelocity, and the fare bounces for the same route change like crazy.

Guys, I travel 2-3 days a week on business, as do a lot of business travelers, "they are not concerned with how much you travel!" As long as you don't have anything on you that is restricted items such as sissors(even the very small nail ones)you will be fine. They are not going to cross ref. your IRS reported income with the amount of travel you do! Point in fact the more travel you do the better, if you are gold, Platinum, etc on one of the frequent flyer programs, those numbers show on your ticket and identify you as one of the airlines better customers!

PayPal, or failing that, Western Union would probably make more sense in a case like this than sending a check.

All this travel discussion is making me want to just be a hermit and hide in my cave. But thank god for Em & Lo!!! I'm liberated again. I can fly again. Or not? Do they security check parcels at UPS or FedEx?

Here's Em & Lo's advise...
