I'm medically savvy and have discovered a good number of guys having anal warts (yeah disgusting) and more scary, they are not aware. I am familiar with modalities for treatment but I have not been able to find good information, other than the condom approach, on prevention.

Unfortunately, this is a very silent STD in that you do not realize you have until months after someone has passed it on and the warts themselves may be on the interior of the lower rectum where they cannot be seen.

The origin is also varied in that the warts may be a product of herpes or even untreated syphilis.

I would appreciate some of the medical experts out there putting their minds together and shedding some light on this STD.

Also, when I discussed being evaluated for "any" STD with my doc, he advised that this practice was overkill. I am not too sure I agree with this, being sexually active (and he knows my orientation and that I am sexually active) I think its a good idea to be evaluated periodically. I guess the next step is to find a gay doc that agrees with this concept. I'm in the NYC area and would like to know the best way to obtain a referral. I do not want to pick someone of out the yellow pages as I need to know of their background, etc.

Thanks guys!
